Again, a hood is not included. Bokeh Even shooting wide open at f1. Sharpness Sharpness is very good wide open and excellent above f2.

Color Fringing Ah yes, the dreaded color fringing, this seems to be a common issue within the Micro Four Thirds format and photos taken with the Olympus 17mm f1. Like with most color fringing, it is most evident along areas of strong contrast. Thankfully, most color fringing can be easily removed in post.

Distortion Yes, this lens does exhibit a fair amount of distortion. Thankfully, the OM-D and several other Olympus bodies do their best to correct for distortion within. I still find a bit of distortion, even within.

Driver UPDATE: Olympus Digital Camera M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 17mm F1.8 Lens

The lens is designed to fit the micro four-thirds mount, and will not mount on standard four-thirds bodies. As a four-thirds lens, it produces an equivalent field of view of approximately 34mm. Zuiko provided surprisingly sharp results.

Chromatic Aberration There is some chromatic aberration of note when using this lens: In the central region of the frame again, at wider apertures we note some chromatic aberration: At other settings, corner shading is negligible. Zuiko uses Olympus' MSC Move-Still-Compatible technology, making the lens fast and near-silent to autofocus; the lens focuses between close-focus and infinity in less than a second.

There's also no weather sealing, so your dust- and splash-proof OM-D E-M5 won't be completely protected when this lens is attached. Despite these quibbles, the lens is a worthy addition to any Micro Four Thirds camera kit.

It earns our Editors' Choice for wide-angle lenses for mirrorless cameras. It's extremely sharp, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Read on to find out which of those models you should be using, and which, if any, you should try and avoid.
